September 21, 2018 Columbia SC,Police report a shooting at a Chinese restaurant ending in the death of a robber who held the employees at gun point.
According to police, an armed man hiding his face in a hoodie and bandanna, walked into the China Kitchen restaurant demanding money from the 2 women behind the counter.
The women then fled to the relative safety of another part of the restaurant. Some reports say that the women were “victimized” before fleeing, but does not go into what that statement meant.
Another female employee heard the noise and went to investigate, finding the man pointing the gun are her, continuing to demand that she open the register and give him the money.
The woman complied at first and began to pull money out of the open register to hand over to him. Then, when she saw an opportunity, she grabbed his gun and began to fight with him over it.
While the woman fought the robber for his weapon, a relative of hers came out of the back and shot the robber in the upper body with a gun of his own.
When police responded to the 911 call they found the suspect laying on the ground with a gun shot wound to his chest.
The suspect was taken to the local Palmetto Health Hospital but pronounced dead according to Richland County Coroner Gary Watts.
The identity of the suspect has not been released.
Police say no charges are to be filed against the defender since he acted out of self-defense.
Grabbing a gun that is pointed at you is a risky endeavor. Fortunately, there was an armed defender nearby to assist the gutsy employee or this situation could have turned out differently.
